The best dates usually start with a blanket!

When was the last time you had a date that didn’t involve a reservation, a screen, or the phrase, “What do you want to do?”
Life has a funny way of turning us into creatures of habit. We order from the same restaurant, watch the same shows, sit in the same spots on the couch, and spend so much time talking about schedules, work, kids, groceries, and everything that needs to get done that we sometimes forget to simply enjoy each other.
But here’s the interesting part: connection doesn’t always require a big romantic gesture. Sometimes, slowing down and creating a comfortable environment can be exactly what your relationship needs.
Think about those moments you remember years later. Maybe it was watching the sunset from the back of the truck, listening to live music in the park, finding a quiet spot by the water, or lying under the stars pretending you actually know what any of those constellations are.
Those moments tend to stick because you weren’t rushing. You were present.
And being present matters when it comes to intimacy, too. When you feel relaxed, connected, comfortable, and emotionally engaged with your partner, it can create the right environment for affection and desire to develop.
This is especially important if you don’t always experience spontaneous desire. For many women, desire can be responsive rather than spontaneous. That means you may not start the evening thinking, “I’m in the mood,” but after spending time together, flirting, cuddling, kissing, touching, or simply feeling connected, your desire may begin to show up.
So instead of wondering, “Why am I never in the mood?” it can be helpful to ask, “What helps me get in the mood?”
Maybe it’s uninterrupted time together. Maybe it’s affection without pressure. Maybe it’s laughing together, getting out of your normal routine, or simply feeling like a couple again instead of two people managing a household.
So grab your favorite snacks, throw a cozy blanket in the car, and go somewhere you can watch the sunset. Put your phones away for an hour and actually talk. Hold hands. Cuddle. Flirt. Laugh. Ask each other questions you haven’t asked in a while.
And most importantly, take the pressure off. Connection doesn’t have to lead to sex to be valuable. Sometimes creating that emotional and physical closeness is the thing that helps desire naturally follow.
The goal isn’t to plan the perfect date. It’s to slow down long enough to create a memory, reconnect with each other, and remind yourselves why you chose each other in the first place.
So pack the snacks, grab the BLANKET, watch the sunset, and stay a little longer.
And if the night goes really well… you might just find yourselves creating a few more memories when you get home.
