What if you're not buying the “wrong” toy?
Share
Have you ever added something to your cart, stared at it for way too long, and then closed the tab because you suddenly felt like you had absolutely no idea what you were doing? Like somehow everyone else got the instruction manual, and you missed the meeting where they handed them out?
You are definitely not alone. A lot of people don't avoid trying something new because they aren't interested. They avoid it because they aren't sure how to choose. With so many shapes, sizes, sensations, materials, and features, it can feel like you're supposed to know exactly what you want before you've even tried anything.
But here's the thing nobody really tells you: there isn't one “right” toy. Instead of asking which toy is the best, start by asking yourself what you're actually hoping to experience. Are you looking for a different type of stimulation, more intensity, something to use on your own, or something you can explore together with your partner? Knowing what you want more of can make choosing a lot less overwhelming.
If you're new to toys, you also don't have to start with something complicated. Beginner-friendly products can be a great way to learn what you like because they allow you to experiment with different sensations without feeling like you need to become an expert first. You may discover that you prefer softer stimulation, more control, a certain shape, or a particular type of sensation. And once you know that, choosing your next product becomes much easier.
Think about it like trying a new restaurant. You don't know your favorite meal before you've tasted it. You try something, figure out what you enjoy, discover what you don't, and use that information the next time. Exploring pleasure can work the same way.
And here's an important part: something not being your favorite doesn't mean you chose wrong. It means you learned something about yourself. Maybe you discover that a certain size isn't comfortable for you, that you prefer less intensity, or that you enjoy a completely different type of stimulation than you expected. That's useful information, not failure.
You also don't have to figure everything out on your own. If you're curious about trying something but aren't sure where to start, you can always ask questions. That's what I'm here for. Tell me what you're looking for, what you've tried before, or simply what you're curious about, and we can narrow down your options without the awkwardness or judgment!
You don't need to be an expert before you start exploring. Sometimes exploring is exactly how you learn what you like.
